Mrs. Gertrude Hatcher Was Head
of Welfare Association and De-
voted Time to Needy

Galena, Kan., Oct. 15—Mrs. Gertrude Hatcher, 61 years old, wife of W. J. Hatcher, Galena night patrolman and constable, died at 10 o'clock this morning at her home, 1100 Bellevue avenue, from a complication of diseases. She had been in ill health two years and had been critical three months. She was brought home a week ago from St. John's hospital in Joplin, where she had been a medical patient.

Mrs. Hatcher was born in this vicinity, where she had lived all her life.

Mrs. Hatcher was president of the Galena Welfare Association, having been elected to this position when it was organized last autumn, and spent much time and labor in aiding needy persons here. Much of the success of the organization was attributed to her.

She was a member of the Methodist church, Rebekah lodge and Woman's Relief Corps.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Otis Killian, and four daughters, Mrs. Arthur Edstrom, Mrs. Buck Craig, Mrs. Everett Bradley and Mrs. Eugene Moffett, all of Galena.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

GERTRUDE HATCHER RITES
WILL BE HELD SUNDAY

Galena, Kan., Oct. 16. — Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Hatcher, 61 years old, wife of W. J. Hatcher, Galena night patrolman and constable, who died yesterday morning at her home, 1100 Bellevue avenue, will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Methodist Episcopal church, with the Rev. J. L. Mitchell, pastor, in charge. 

Burial will be in the Granby, Mo., cemetery. The body will lie in state at the home until the funeral hour.

Besides the husband, four daughters and one son, Mrs. Hatcher is survived by two brothers, Noan (sic) [Noah] Martin and Joe Martin of Galena; three sisters, Mrs. Jim Thompson (should be Thomason}  of Galena, Mrs. Vica Russell of Joplin, and Mrs. Roy Lumbley of Los Angeles, and 12 grandchildren.
