Former Galena Mayor Dale Oglesby stated that he thought of the concept in 2011. The arch spans 100 feet for the 100th-year anniversary of Route 66. The metal frame is mostly from Joplin; its metal trusses are from the East Middle School Gym that was destroyed in the 2011 Tornado. There will be a dedication after the signs are hung and the lights are set on the structure.
