That Oildale Bridge
We were oil and crop field kids built dirt tough
We didn't own much and hardly any fancy stuff
We liked our good times simple and plain
Fun to us was usually daring and seldom tame
Jumpin' off and fishin' along that Oildale Bridge
Were some of the most fun days we ever lived
Us boys and a few of the girls too had our fun
On that concrete bridge under a summer sun
Folks from not around called us River Rats
Because of the place we were raised at
It was the marker for the great divide
Big city Bakersfield was on the other side
Skinny dipping was part of it too
We all had the freedom to choose
Freedom is the best word to describe
What it meant then just to be alive
Those days with the mighty Kern River in flow
Are long gone but we will always recall and know
What it felt like in those hot summer throes
Jumping' in the water wearing no clothes, Ahhh
