DOUG ABRAM: REMEMBERED
That first year for the Galena Little League Baseball program, Doug Abram was the star pitcher for our Dodgers Little League baseball team. A year older than me, I remember Doug as being a real gamer. His dad, Harold, was always there in the crowd, memorable as well wearing his all tan work outfit as a bread truck driver, including a signature long-billed cap, and mirrored sunglasses. Doug, after high school, operated the diner in the back portion of Galena Sundries, serving up delicious burgers and malts. He married Becky Hunter (Class of '61) and I lost track of them both after that.
FBI AGENT DOUG ABRAM
I lost track until I found this article some time back:
In 1990, FBI Special Agent L. Douglas Abram, who worked out of the St. Louis Field Office, was shot and killed as he and other members of the SWAT team were fired on while serving a search warrant at the home of a suspected bank robber. The bank robber was also killed in the shootout and two other FBI special agents were wounded. Special Agent Abram's 17-year-old son, Shae, had this to say at his father's funeral: "My dad died the way he wanted to-in the line of duty for his country and on a SWAT operation."

L. Douglas Abram
1942 - 1990
On the afternoon of January 19, 1990, Special Agent L. Douglas Abram was shot and killed in a house located in St. Louis County, Missouri. Special Agent Abram and other members of the St. Louis SWAT team had assembled to effect entry into the residence for a team executing a search warrant for weapons and drugs at that location. As the SWAT team entered the house, occupant James Price fatally wounded Special Agent Abram. SWAT team agents returned fire, killing Price.
Special Agent Abram was born in April 1942 in Joplin, Missouri. After earning a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Marketing from the University of Arkansas in 1968, and serving in the U.S. Air Force, he entered on duty with the FBI in June 1976.
