GALENA LITTLE LEAGUE TO OPEN MAIDEN SEASON
Tryouts and spring training for the newly formed Galena Little league will begin May 10, starting at 5 p. m. at the Little league Ball Park at Eighth and Euclid streets. A player auction will be held May 22 at which time the four team managers will select the players for their teams and the remaining players will be assigned to farm teams for further training by managers Ted Clowers and the Rev. Ernest Davis. A Complete roster of players will be announced following the auction.
Park Under Construction
Much interest has been shown in the Little league movement here and donations of money, labor, and materials have been well above the expected mark. Work on the new ballpark is going ahead rapidly and it is expected to be completed soon. A grandstand and lights for night play will be added later. Plenty of parking space is available. The first game of the season is scheduled for June 3, starting at 5 p.m., between the Willis Giants and the Herrelson Braves with the second game Between the V F. W. Dodgers and the American Legion Cardinals.
The Cardinals are sponsored by the American Legion with Harold French Jr., as manager. The Dodgers are sponsored by V. F. W. Post with Noah Martin as manager. Giants Are sponsored by Almon Willis with Ernie McCorkle as manager, and the Braves are sponsored by Harold Herrelson with Charles Rago as manager.
