I've lately been leaving spare food out at night for a gray fox that showed up. At first, I thought it might be a feral cat, since I'm more used to seeing red foxes. I've now read that in captivity they can live up to 15 years, but only 6 years in the wild.
The gray fox is one of two species in the canid family capable of climbing trees.
