The oldest business continuously operated under the same management in Galena is the Schmidt Brothers Hardware, operated by Albert and Will Schmidt which dates back to June 15, 1892.

I'm not sure when the above was written, but I do recall how I often accompanied my grandfather Martin inside the store in the mid-1950s. There was just one brother at the counter then. The other was either deceased or ill.
