An item so old none of us witnessed the event in Galena back in 1891 when a famous actor came to town.  As you know, no matter what happens, the show must go on.

The celebrated old-time actor,  Walker Whiteside, related that in his barnstorming days he “once played in a dingy “opery (sic)-house’ in Galena, Kan., when it rained so hard the ushers had to wear rubber boots, and the audience sat upon the backs of their chairs.”
